TEEN SPACE (DISCOVERY DISTRICT) USAGE POLICY

The North Miami Beach Library’s Teen Space (Discovery District) is an area where library patrons ages 13-19 can read, study, do homework, work on school projects, use computers for appropriate educational and recreational purposes, and do other library appropriate activities.
In order to keep the Teen Space open to all teen users now and in the future, we ask that all patrons using the space adhere to the policies outlined in the North Miami Beach Library’s Code of Conduct. Listed below are guidelines specific to using the teen space:
Seating and computers in the teen space are reserved for patrons ages 13-19. If you do not appear to be 13-19 years of age, you may be asked to move to another area of the library during times when school is not in session. All patrons are encouraged to browse the teen collection for books and other materials.
Tables in the area are intended to be moved around to make room for large or small groups of teens working together. Please keep teen furniture in the teen area.
The computers in the teen space are available for teens 13-19. Computers are available on a first come, first served basis, and teen patrons will be able to use some or all of their 90 minutes of internet time on these computer stations. PCs in the Teen Space will be filtered.
Materials in the teen collection are intended for patrons ages 13-19. The library strives to reach this entire age group, and what is appropriate for an 18 year old may not be for a 13 year old. Parents are encouraged to talk with their teens about what they are reading.
All patrons using the library are required to follow the North Miami Beach Library’s Code of Conduct. The following behaviors are not permitted in the library:
Violence
Excessive noise
Disruptive public displays of affection
Vandalism and destruction of library property
Violation of any of the rules above or anything from the Library Code of Conduct will be handled in the following way:
Patron will be asked to stop behavior.
Patron will be asked again to stop behavior and warned that they will be asked to leave if warned again.
Patron will be asked to leave the library.
Patrons may be asked to leave the library, at the discretion of any library staff member, if the situation mandates. If necessary, the police will be contacted.
Teachers who would like to use our space for school groups should call the library at least two weeks ahead of time to make arrangements. The library can accommodate up to 32 students and is happy to tailor the visit to the needs of your students from book talks to database instruction and research materials. Please call the North Miami Beach Library Circulation Desk 305-948-2970 and ask for a librarian for more information.
